Blacktoft Sands (by Coach)

The coach will be a 33seater and will pick up in Hoylake (Cottage Hospital), West Kirby (Dee Hotel and Beacon) and Heswall (Quarry Rd, Fire Station and Glegg Arms).  Cost per person is £20.

Blacktoft Sands is a RSPB reserve (remember your membership card) near Goole on the banks of the River Ouse near its confluence with the Trent and then the Humber.  It is the second largest tidal reedbed in the UK, and hosts a wide range of water birds and waders (including breeding Avocets) along with a variety of raptors such as Marsh and Hen Harriers.  Bitterns can be heard booming and a recent exciting sighting was a White-tailed Eagle.  There are also, of course, plenty of smaller birds including Bearded Tits.

There are six bird hides and a viewing screen.  There are toilets at the visitor centre and ‘light refreshments’.

At the end of the day sit back on the coach and let the driver do the hard work!
