Svalbard is a remote Arctic archipelago, located halfway between mainland Norway and the North Pole. It is characterised by massive glaciers covering 60% of the land, towering mountains, and tundra that blooms briefly in summer. It is a heavily protected, fragile ecosystem known for its iconic wildlife, with 65% of the land area covered by national parks and reserves.
Wildlife includes including Polar Bears, Walruses, Reindeer, and Arctic Foxes, together with millions of migratory seabirds, such as Little Auks, Black and Brunnich’s Guillemot, Fulmar and Kittiwake.
The incredible flora and fauna combined with an interesting history and geology make this a unique location to explore as we cruise around the islands and seek the retreating Arctic pack ice.
