A local favourite with lots of variety. Do the wind-turbines make a difference?
Part of this environment consists of “ponds” or “tanks” where the spoil from dredging the nearby Manchester Ship Canal is or has been dumped. We shall be looking at Number 6 tank which should contain some water which attracts wading birds as well as various ducks and other waterfowl. The tide is in and covering the mudflats of the Mersey at the start of our visit which will hopefully cause more birds to take temporary refuge in the shallow water of the tanks.
Later we will take a walk to the bank of the River Weaver and follow the track to what is known as the Weaver Bend. Here we should encounter quite a variety of birds on the water or river banks. Buzzards and Kestrels are usually present and the local Peregrine may make an appearance.

There are no facilities for food, drink or toilets at this location and no shelter should the weather be poor. The ground can be uneven and muddy and walking boots or strong shoes are recommended. There is a fair amount of walking involved.
Directions
Take the M53-M56 and exit at J14 Hapsford. Take 3rd exit from roundabout to A5117, Helsby and Frodsham, which becomes A56. Follow this road for just over 4 miles from the M’way until you enter Frodsham and pass under a railway bridge. After the railway bridge and Cheshire Cheese P.H. on left take a sharp turn left into Marsh Lane. Follow Marsh Lane. It bends right and climbs over a motorway bridge. Park on or after the motorway bridge at the side of the road. There should be plenty of room. Meet at 10.00hrs.
