This issue features more photos from the Hilbre visit earlier in the month.
The sunny weather enabled us to take lots of nice images – although the heat and excitement was maybe a little much for some!
The latest news on the restoration of Hoylake Carrs Wetlands is that practical work has started. This includes reconnecting a section of the River Birkett to its floodplain. The project is a partnership between Wirral Council and Cheshire Wildlife Trust and it is hoped that it will help restore an important wetland landscape, supporting wildlife, increasing resilience to flooding and bringing wider environmental benefits for the area.
A map of how the reserve might look in the future is attached.
In case you were not aware already, RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands has changed its opening times. From 1st September, the standard opening times will be from 9am until 5pm throughout the year, only changing to 9am to 4.30pm from 1st November until 31 January. There will no longer be extended evening opening until dusk.
Apparently, this brings Burton Mere Wetlands in line with the closing times on all other lockable/private/closed RSPB reserves.
Thank you to Bill, Hugh, Paul, James and Angela for the photos.
Hugh
