Waterways, flashes and woodland in Cheshire.
Marbury Country Park is part of Northwich Woodlands adjacent to Northwich town. Since Roman times the area has been mined for salt and mine collapses have left large craters and wet flashes. This and other, mostly chemical, industries have made this a window to the past. Waterways and canals abound and the Anderton Boat Lift and Lion Salt Works are the most obvious relics.
There are over 20 miles of well maintained and well signposted footpaths giving good access to a variety of habitats.
We will meet at10.00 in the Pay and Display car park at Marbury Country Park and start the day with a walk along the side of Budworth Mere (Marbury Mere). The weather and group wishes will determine how far we walk but in the afternoon I intend to visit Neumann’s Flash (probably a relocation by car). Both these locations should be hosting a good variety of water birds. There are a number of hides available.
There are refreshments from a trailer and also toilets at Marbury.
Directions
Take M53/M56. Exit at Junction 10 and take A559 towards Northwich. After 3.2 miles turn off right onto Gibb Hill. Pass through Comberbach and shortly after turn left into the Park. The park is well signposted from A559.
