Panoramic views and nature at its best in the Welsh marches near Oswestry.
Moelydd is the name of a small round-topped hill near Oswestry which, on a clear day, gives an all round panorama of the countryside of the Welsh Marches. We shall meet in the village of Trefonen and walk about 4½ miles of footpaths and tracks and a few quiet roads with hedgerows, trees and woods providing habitat for a wide variety of birds.
Hopefully our migrant visitors will have finally arrived in their numbers! The route follows part of the Offa’s Dyke path and while the occasional pause for breath may be required there is nothing too challenging. There is a small general shop in Trefonen but no toilets and the pub doesn’t open until 5pm.

Directions
Get onto the A483 which runs Chester – Wrexham. Continue on – it becomes the A5 near Chirk. Traffic is always heavy around Oswestry. At the “Mile End” roundabout the road becomes the A483 again. After this roundabout, on the A483, there are roadworks with temporary traffic lights and long tail-backs.
Either endure the delay and then carry on. Take the right turn to Morda, then left in middle of village towards Trefonen.

Turn right, before the road works, at Mile End roundabout, into Oswestry (Shrewsbury Road, Victoria Road, Upper Brook Street, Trefonen Road).
Arriving in Trefonen, turn left at pedestrian crossing (signed Village Hall), immediately left again into School Lane. Car park is on left after school.
