Thornton Hough

A walk around local countryside, looking for farmland and woodland birds.

We will have a leisurely stroll along footpaths across the Leverhulme Estate, looking for common birds of the farmland and woods.  Buzzards breed here and Kestrels are regular. Finch numbers are increasing for the winter, although the Yellowhammer is sadly becoming a local rarity.  Pheasants and Red-legged Partridge are numerous.

Paths are likely to be muddy in places after all the rain, so wellies or boots are advisable.

As it will be close to the winter solstice, we are likely to finish early- or mid-afternoon, before it gets too dark and cold!

Meet at 10am by St. George’s Church, St George’s Way, CH63 1JJ.

(Opposite Thornton Hough primary school).

Plenty of parking on St. George’s Way, Manor Road and Smithy Hill etc.
