Wigan Flashes

Flashes of open water, canal, reed-beds, wet woodland and rough grassland. Various wildfowl.

The Wigan Council website states that the Wigan Flashes area has an abundance of wildlife, including Water Vole, Willow Tit (one of five RSPB red-listed birds in the area) and the very rare and shy Bittern.

There are six bird hide screens for enthusiasts, and there are 10 km of paths around the site, offering a range of short to medium length walks, where you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside.

Park and meet beside St. James with St. Thomas, Tipping Street, Poolstock, Wigan at 10.00 am.

Take M6 North, via M53/M56.

From M6, exit at Junction 25.

At Bryn Interchange, take the 1st exit onto Warrington Rd/A49

After 0.7 miles, turn right on to Poolstock Lane/B5238

After 1.1 miles, turn left on to Tipping Street

Look for the church – you cannot miss it! Park opposite the church on Tipping Street. Postcode WN3 5EZ
